Boudoir
Sexy, sexy.
I know my FH will absolutely LOVE these. I'm planning on doing them through Pink Kitty Studios (www.pinkkittystudios.com) and having them arranged in a scrapbook and given to him before the wedding.
I have an itty bitty problem though ... I'm not photogenic and I'm terribly goofy. It is very difficult for me to pose in front of a camera without making a funny face. I can't imagine how weird I'll feel half-naked. For our engagement photos, I had a few glasses of wine to loosen me up. Have any of you already had these done? Was it super-weird? (: |

Entertainment
Games, tricks, and fun!
I want our wedding to be fun for all ... my grandparents, my friends, myself, and of course, my FH.
The MC/DJ we are going to hire had some excellent ideas and I've seen some of his videos on YouTube and they seemed great! 1 - During that super strange part of the reception where the groom is supposed to remove my garter with his teeth, make it funny by sitting on a covered chair backed up to a covered table. Have a friend underneath the table handing things to my groom so it's a Mary Poppins kind of thing. He's be under there and pull out maybe a snowboard, golf clubs, a person or two. Heh. 2 - The key trick. Hand out dozens of keys to the ladies at the reception without my FH knowing. Probably give a key to my mom and a guy or too, also. Heh. Then when one of his buddies gives a speech, have him announce something like: "For all you ladies in the crowd who are still in possession of Alex's apartment keys, you will need to return them. He's off the market now." And then all these dozens of girls drop keys on the head table. Even my mom. And a guy or two. 3 - The Newlywed game. You all know about this game ... where we would swap shoes and use mine to indicate me and his to indicate him. We'd face away from eachother on the dance floor with our chairs back-to-back. Our MC said he asked once whose family was the craziest and the crowd nearly died when both the bride and groom eagerly indicated the bride's family. Hehehe. What do you think? Have any of you seen these things in action? Are they as funny as they sound? |

A good book. |
Good Advice
The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands
I just bought this book and tore through it in a few hours. I couldn't put it down.
Now sometimes, I know, Dr. Laura can come off as a phycopath. But her theories about marriage are right-on. Would your FH swim through shark-infested waters to bring you a lemonade? Do you think he will 10 years from now? The book had me nodding along with it throughout it's entirety and it also had me appalled at the nasty habits I've already developed. There was such simple, eye-opening advice as: Treat your husband better than you would an out-of-town guest. I would recommend this to everyone. |

Photography
Our engagement pictures.
Alex surprised me with professional pictures when I got back from Iraq. Our photographer, Jasmine Star, is an absolute genius. If you are in the southern California area, I suggest you contact her. She is just wonderful!
Just thought I'd share our pictures with you ladies. (: Do you have any favorites? (I like the one where I'm making him do pushups!) ***Funny note. I am so nervous and awkward and NON-photogenic that Alex bought me a bottle of wine and I finished it before the shoot. Ha ha ha ha ha. |

PG-11 (the Gocco I REALLY want) B-6 (the Gocco I bought) ![]() ![]() |
Invitation
Gocco. I am officially OBSESSED.
I read about Gocco on a post here a week or so ago. I did some research and I am DYING to have one! So I have been spending my time off work hunting for one and I found an inexpensive B-6 on ebay ($150 including about 60 screens!).
I'd really, REALLY like to have a PG-11, but they run around $250 plus ahipping at best. I'm also heartbroken that Gocco is out of production. How can that be?! They would strike gold if they sold these suckers at Michael's. I'm hoping that Riso (the parent company) will reevaluate their decision and start producing them again. Or perhaps, another company will pick up the gadget or make compatible inks, screens, bulbs, and replacement parts. I'm going to be using this to make everything for my wedding (well, the invitation-related things). I'm also in the process of suckering my hubby-to-be into buying me tons of ink and flashbulbs. (Our anniversary is in 3 weeks.) I CAN'T WAIT!!!! |

This is the idea, only all white tulips. I think white is so elegant. I'll buy some similar to these in bulk. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Flowers
Mod Tulips?
I really like square glass or acrylic vases with white tulips stuffed inside. Tulips are a MUST because we fell in love in Holland. (:
Any other ideas for modern arrangements? I'm not one for tons of fuss and baby's breath and stuff. And I don't like silk flowers at all. What do you think? Also ... I have spent tons of time looking online for bulk fresh-cut tulips. The best I think I found is on fiftyflowers.com. Has anyone had better luck hunting? |

Wedding Dress
I like these!
The first one is probably my favorite (the sleeves detach, otherwise, ick). I LOVE the third, too.
What do you guys think? |

How many is too many? |
An Extended Family
A big issue.
I mentioned in an earlier post that I have an extended family. Let me explain:
My parents divorced. Both remarried. My father remarried twice. I absolutely ADORE my new stepmom. She is family. But the trouble is that her family is SOOOOO big. Her only children are the ones she's inherited from my dad's previous marriages. I want this wedding to be special for her, too, as her only daughter. I want her to share it with as many people as possible. I probably have 20 cousins from her side, most of whom I've never met or met only once. This part of the family is the source of tons of family drama. If one person accidentally slights another, they all talk about it to death (and behind your back) and cause more problems. I don't care too much what they say about me. But I really want this to be easier on her. I sent an email to my dad and stepmom last night, asking for two lists: a short one with the absolute MUSTS, and another with the OUGHT TO BE INVITED. My dad emailed me this morning looking for a more specific number. My strategy was to just see what kind of number we were looking at. I don't know what to tell him! I really don't want to exceed 120 guests with my limited budget, and I have to split these between my mom and stepdad, my FH's family, and our friends (and he has got A LOT). You ladies are creative. Any advice for a bride in distress? |

Ask a Question
Asking the parents for help.
Have any of you had to ask family members for some help with money for your wedding?
I'm 24 and Alex is 26. His family is certainly not well off and I am not sure we could ask them for help. I have a split familiy (dad and stepmom, mom and stepdad). My dad is giving us $10,000 from the way things sound. He has four kids and says all of us get $10,000 for our wedding or however we choose to spend it (or not spend it) when we get married. I'm the oldest and first to marry of the bunch. Our wedding is going to be in the ballpark of 130 people. I hope. I am trying to budget, but the food is going to break the bank. In southern California, you just cannot find a good caterer for less than $50 a head. Should we ask my mom, perhaps? How would you even go about doing that? :::sigh::: |

Hello!
How do you do?
Hello, brides-to-be. I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Tracy and I am engaged to Alex, my best friend of 10 years and lover of 1 year.
We haven't exactly set a date, nor have we booked a location. The next few months will dictate how things go. I am a Sergeant in the US Army and he is a civilian (thank god!) and he lives in California. I am stationed in Germany. I am at a crossroads in my "career." I will either move to California in a few months (though I will still be two hours away from my future hubby) or I will stay in Germany to finish out my current contract. If I move to CA, we will marry in the Spring of 2009. If I don't, who knows? It's true about military marriages, they are really difficult. I am getting out, though. By the time I'm out, I will have served a solid 9 years and that is PLENTY. I'm ready to be a full-time student and wife (and probably a part-time waitress as well, lol). I have a lot of questions and I've enjoyed browsing the site and cyber-stalking your blogs. You guys have the GREATEST ideas! About our wedding: I have my heart set on black and white damask with big punches of aqua blue. I would love a wedding dress with a big, blue sash. I don't plan on having bridesmaids (although none of my friends know this yet). I appreciate any and all advice and I hope to meet you around the site. Happy planning! |
