Wedding Rings And Jewelry
I love my ring but

I think I would like to have it dipped in Platinum at some point for 2 reasons.

1. I've been wearing it for over a year now and I tried it on with my wedding band and the white gold on it is already a much different shade than my band. I knew white gold would fade but wow that was a lot faster than I expected. Platinum is much more expensive, but it holds its color much better from what I understand.

2. I've got a rash on my finger where my ring sits. Again. This is the second time it has happened and its been many months since the last time, but I cant help but thing I've got some sort of allergy to it since white gold is a mixed metal. White gold has other metals in it to make it appear silver, like palladium or nickle. I know I'm allergic to nickle because I battled that until i figured out what it was.

Until I get it dipped. I'll just heal up my finger in between itchy sessions. My finger can just itch to high heaven I'M NOT TAKING IT OFF BODY... JUST DEAL WITH IT!!! lol :)

I think at some point you will have to have it done in platinum too if you are getting a rash like that.  My sister has the exact same problem and she went to the doctor and sure enough, its her ring thats causing this.  To help with it, she only wears her wedding set when she is going out of the house.  She takes it off when she is at home and it seems to help a bit for her.  I know what you mean about not wanting to take your ring off.  I take mine off when i wash my face and to sleep now bc i dont want it to get too scratched, but its hard to not have it on. Im always worried its gonna fall down the sink or get lost!

Hahaha! Well, I don't know if this is something you would want to do, but with other rings that I have, when the cheaper metal bothers my finger (or turns it green) I just apply a thin layer of clear nail polish to the inside like that there's a protective barrier between the metal and your skin. Just a thought.

Do some research online about "dipping" a ring.  It's not a permanet thing.  I considered buying a yellow gold ring about a year ago and having it dipped but decided against it.  The "dipped" finish will fade because of the natural oils in our skin.

Are you sure you are allergic to your ring?

I had a similar issue when I 1st started wearing mine however it was because I kept my ring on while I washed my hands and washed dishes etc.  I talked to my mom about it and she actually would get the same thing. It went away and now I don't get it anymore since I take my rings off when I do such chores.  And I make sure I dry my hands real good if I havem y rings on (I never place my rings on the sink)

Like said above, not sure you can dip a ring in platinum- perhaps you could have the stone reset?

thanks for all your comments.  I am not definitely sure I'm allergic because I've never had trouble in the past with real metals.  I've never owned a white gold piece of jewelry before but i had no problems with gold, silver or surgical steel.  Only fake stuff.  The first time I got the rash I got it healed up and that was  a year ago.  I started trying to pay more attention to drying my hands and keeping the ring clean, but for some reason this past week that rash just came up.  It could be build up and me not drying my hands well enough too b/c its only on the inside of my finger.  No where else.  Strange huh?

I would definitely dip it in Platinum if I was getting reactions like you are!  Also, do you take your ring in to the jeweler to get buffed and cleaned? That might help brighten up the white gold!! Plus maybe the people at the jewelry store can suggest something to help prevent the ring from giving you reactions.  good luck with it all :)
