Anniversary/Wedding After Shoot
I'm posting this for any brides looking to create a 'retro' inspired wedding or other wedding related parties.
Take a look at some photos taken by our wedding photographers. (Lee Mann Productions) http://www.leemannproductions.com/ http://www.facebook.com/leemannproductions?ref=ts#!/leemannproductions The session was somewhat of an 'after shoot' since it's very hard and stressful to get ALL the photos you want on the busy wedding day. We didn't want to wear the same outfits as the wedding, so we opted for a 40s/50s style photo shoot. We also wanted to have some new pictures since we are almost at our 1 year anniversary. It turned out great!!!! I styled the outfits and accessories and I also made the dress and veiled hat as I am an apparel and costume designer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks to the Lee Mann Productions team once again for amazing photographs! |

Honeymoon
Roma, Italia!
I never posted our Honeymoon pictures.
Rome was fabulous. That's all I can really say!! We decided to take our honeymoon during the holidays. We were at Christmas Mass, just for the experience really and boy were we surprised when the Pope was knocked over! What a sight!! (in case you hadn't heard): http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/12/24 /vatican.christmas.mass.pope/index.html We were there for 9 days. The weather was much warmer than in Canada, but it rained a few of the days, but nothing awful. We didn't make it to Naples or Pompeii, but maybe another time! Our Wedding
We were featured twice!
We are on the Wedding Bells website
http://www.weddingbells.ca/articles/slideshow/vintage-romance/ very exciting. I was surprised by the photos they chose, there were so many better ones to choose from that showed all the little details (which is what I think ppl love to see) Anyway, we are also being featured in another bridal magazine in Winter 2010. It went on sale Jan 20th at Chapters. http://www.theweddingring.ca/london-reality-wedding-stories/vintage-hollywood-glam-wedding-london (from the magazine) ![]() ![]() Here are the best pictures that I've uploaded. Wedding Rings And Jewelry
Vendor Review
We had all of our rings custom made by a jeweler in town.
"Tiffany Legacy" engagement ring for me. It turned out BEAUTIFUL for a fraction of the Tiffany's ring!!! (The Legacy is the cushion cut with halo) (Coloured Legacy) ![]() (My Legacy!) ![]() We had my band to match perfectly and had his to match too (but more masculine!!! no diamonds for him :P) Overall, they all looked great and we are having more pieces custom made in the future. |

Vendor Review
As mentioned before I will be giving reviews about the vendors we worked with!
Photographer: Lee Mann Photography website: www.leemannphotography.ca blog: http://leemannphotography.ca/blog/ FB: http://www.facebook.com/leemannphotography?ref=ts I met Lee at a Fashion networking party a few years ago. Once I saw his portfolio online I knew he was the photographer for my wedding! The pictures were exactly what we were hoping for! (908 of them!) The package we bought ensured an 'all day' coverage. It was well worth the money! The contract also gives you the rights to your photos! Which is great, so you can print them anywhere you like! Although, enlargements are best left up to the pros! Please review the website and blog for more fabulous photos. We are planning an 'aftershoot' or 'trash the dress' photo session in the future ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Cover Up
Mehron Tattoo Cover Up
If you have any further questions please ask, I am more than happy to help.
<--------- The arm facing us is my tattooed arm, my photographer did not photoshop any of these pictures. If your tattoo is in an awkward area, ask a friend to help. I had my best friend (who is also an artist) to help with the back of my arm. It made the hour long cover up much faster! I'm sure none of you have the same size tattoo I have that you want to cover, so this should be a cake walk! #1) Shave you peach fuzz. The Makeup will make all your hairs sticky and noticeable. Mist with the Mehron Barrier Spray. #2) Using the natural sea sponge take the colour that best suits your complexion and dab it on the area. You only need the smallest about to cover. It has the consistency of toothpaste so dabbing needs to be quite aggressive. Keep patting and alternate colours if needed to achieve a more natural look. ***you should just focus on covering the tattoo right now, not blending*** #3) Once you have you tattoo covered with the product evenly let it sit for a few minutes. (it won't dry as it's grease based, but I always find it help to let it rest and soak into itself) #4) Take a latex wedge sponge and blend the outside areas of the coverup application. I liked to smudge it around (only on the edged) ***it may not blend perfect, but we will fix that!**** #5) Take a piece of aluminum foil and place it on the counter. Using the Mehron setting powder dust the powder over your coverup and let the foil catch the excess so you are able to reuse it! You need to smack the powder into your skin letting the grease absorb. Keep smacking until the area is no longer sticky. Again, let it sit for a few minutes. #6) Lightly mist the area with the Barrier Spray. (LIGHTLY!) Too much spray and you're back at step #5. At this step you should be able to touch the coverup and not have it smudge or transfer. #7) After the cover up is dry you will apply colour correctors if needed. COLOUR LESSON: Red neutralizes green (vice versa) Blue neutralizes orange (vice versa) Yellow neutralizes purple (vice versa) Take a look at you covered area. Does it look dead and ashy? Does it look orange or pinkish? Using the colour correctors change the undertones of the makeup. I found that I had to use a green corrector for my arm and applied under inside lighting. It's important to apply these steps in the lighting that you chose to be in all day. Is your reception outdoors? apply by the window. Indoors? apply under fluorescent lighting. Unfortunately you can't have both, that's how colour works and reflects. Most of my outdoor photo shots didn't really show the makeup as horrible as it looked under the natural light (so that was a bonus!) #8) Once you have your undertone under control apply your liquid foundation. This foundation is usually darker than what you would normally use since you are applying it to "neutral" skin tone. I opted for a very orange looking foundation and then adjusted it as needed further with correctors. Apply the foundation quickly as it dries fast and can go blotchy. Apply with the latex wedge sponge. ***get a matte finish foundation, no sparkles or highlighters etc*** #9) After your foundation has dried dust the are with powder. I prefer loose but pressed works as well. I have tried both translucent and coloured. I preferred the coloured for myself. Try them both and see what works for you. #10) Spray the entire area with aerosol hairspray. I used an unscented Dove product. Spray evenly and generously. If you spray too much and it drips you will have streaking. Spray as much as you like throughout the day as needed. Practice with different products and techniques. Everyone has a different tattoo with different ink pigments and compositions. It's important to try it a few times to get it right! Good Luck! |

Wedding Cake
My Cake!
3 tier vanilla
(I originally wanted a red velvet, but I bake and can't find a red velvet I like better than my own, so we opted for plain vanilla!) It has sugar crystals to look sparkly, fondant pearls and a broach with feathers. It looked really pretty (I personally don't like the glass pieces on the table, not sure who put those there???!!) ![]() |

It was lovely!
Orchids, roses, crystals and feathers!! I told the florist what I had in mind and provided the crystal strands and purple ostrich feathers. I was so happy when I saw it on the wedding day! It was really heavy though! Glam!! Loved the contrast next to my ivory dress. I hope this inspires you! ![]() |

it's not finished, but all the pictures are printed and almost framed. We will be attaching them to the wall with silicone, so they will not fall off. ENJOY! I love it! We're hoping to use some of the photos that ppl take for our wedding scrapbook. I do have it available for sale. Music!
I've researched tons for my wedding.
Although, I do know quite a bit about the 30s/40s because I have to research it for costume design etc. But, I thought I would post my music list to help other brides with a similar theme. All the music is big band/swing and jazz. Every song was either composed/written/recorded between 1929-1949. (even Marilyn's song was written in 1949, but wasn't released until 1953 for the movie) Some songs have been recorded by various artists, but I've chosen my favs... I have hours of the music but I will post a few to get you started Preludes Vera Lynn - "I'm in the mood for love" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jha-DYxSI0c Billie Holiday - "easy living" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RX7TA3ezjHc Ceremony Glenn Miller Orchestra - "moonlight serenade" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHBvksGdhxA&feature=related Artie Shaw - "love walked in" Cocktails Anita O'Day - "I can't believe that you're in love with me" Ella Fitzgerald - "Let's do it, let's fall in love" Fats Waller - "Everybody loves my baby" June Christy - "Shoo fly pie and apple pan dowdy" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4guFKB5FeuE Cole Porter - "it's delovely" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHa21Ln_dGk Dinner Benny Goodman - "sing, sing, sing" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwDN9UMMi3c Glenn Miller Orchestra - "string of pearls" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQUljW_s50I&feature=related Duke Ellington - "take the A train" Tommy Dorsey - "song of india" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hDWIg4FGJs 1st Dance Edith Piaf OR Louis Armstrong - "la vie en rose" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IJzYAda1wA&feature=related Cake Cutting (LOVE THIS SONG) *can't find the original on youtube* Louis Jordan - "knock me a kiss" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIgpUcfzqGc Bouquet Toss Marilyn Monroe - "diamonds are a girl's best friend" I think most songs are on you tube, so listen to a few! I have TONS more obviously.. and there are so many great songs out there that would fit with the big band/jazz theme, but I was so picky about being sure the years were correct! |

Wedding Flowers
Saving the bouquet?
I didn't even want flowers (they were just too expensive), but everyone talked me into getting a bouquet.
I don't even know what we're doing for it, I'm hoping to meet with the florist next week. However, I saw that you can preserve the bouquet and frame it... now I'm thinking, I want to keep it and not throw it! ahahahah Can I take my bouquet back from the girl who catches it? ahahaha I guess I could....... hrmmmmm I'd love to dry the boutonniere too. I think it'd look fab in a vintage frame somewhere in my house. Any thoughts? ![]() |

Bachelorette!
My Dress!
I feel in love with it, so I bought it.
I've decided I am going to wear it as much as possible! I have 2 bachelorettes so I will wear it both times. I will buy some wings and be a fairy for halloween! I don't particularly like the black shoes, but I don't have ones that are the same pink colour, etc my Betsey Johnson shoes, but that's too much tulle! the true colour is like a hot pink, like in this picture: ![]() Lately I've been obsessed with pink! Being the retro doll that I am, I had to get panties to match!

Rehearsal Dinner
My Dress
It definitely needs some TLC!!!
I love it soooo much! It's exactly what I was looking for. I'm making it strapless and taking it in a lot!!! (it will have the mermaid/trumpet silhouette) I haven't decided if I should hem it to the bottom of the bodice and have a cocktail length dress or just leave the full bottom skirt. It's too short for me to wear heels. (The pic with me in the dress looks funny since I have tons of the fabric pulled behind... and the sleeves too!) Once it is altered I feel that it will really fit in with my 1930s Hollywood Glam theme. Although it was probably made late 80s/early 90s. Here it is on the hanger: ![]() close up of the beads and pearls: ![]() After inspecting it thoroughly, I've concluded that this dress is home made. The methods used to sew it together are not generally seen in the industry today. Exciting, someone designed it with me in mind!!! |

Wedding Dress
Second Thoughts....
I love my dress and can't seem to find anything I like better....
But I still don't feel 100% about it. I ordered ivory since that's what the sample was, and I was nervous about ordering the white. Now I REALLY want to see the white, I wonder if I would like it more... Unfortunately I think the dress is discontinued since it's not on the website anymore. It's Jasmine Bridal F117 I've checked EVERYWHERE for a pic in the white and even a pic of it on someone other than the model. Any thoughts? If anyone has pics or anything that would be awesome! ![]() |

Registry
Sears!
So I didn't want to register at all, but everyone told me I should.
Well, FH and I went to The Bay to register. It was horrible. Their displays were all falling apart, they had nothing in stock... blah blah blah. They don't even have a WEBSITE that you can access items from (so pretty much if that particular store doesn't have what you want you can't put it on your registry easily) They didn't even have most things I was looking for. Then I was telling some other engaged friends about my less than fun experience and they told me to register at Sears. So I check it out. Sears had EVERYTHING I wanted (the colours, styles....) They also have the on-line catalogue so I could copy the style #s down and paste them on my registry list. I was very excited that they had the Kitchenaid Stand Mixer I've wanted for years (and they had the colour I wanted - Almond Cream), the Bay didn't (they told me to buy it from Kitchenaid) ![]() They had some beautiful Duvet covers and bedroom sets. ![]() As well as the usual small kitchen accessories. I still need to register for some glassware and dishware..... On top of all this, I started to compare prices from The Bay and Sears (since some things both stores carried) and Sears was CHEAPER (by about $10-$50 per item) So I deleted a lot of my stuff off my Bay registry and added them to my Sears registry. I don't want my friends/family spending more than needed! Now I'm excited about getting things I actually want/need! |
