Ask a Question
Does anyone know how to make wings?

I can't find Wing to match my wedding!
my daughters dress (flower girl) is ivory just like mine and i don't want her to wear white wings because i think the wings will make her ivory dress look dingy. or would it look ok? maybe orange wings would look better?. I was thinking of making her wings my self does anyone know how to do this??? or where to find the colors i am looking for?
ivory orange yellow or i guess red?
and cheap

***UPDATE****
I don't think i want her to wear wings after all, my FH says the wedding is too formal for wings, and I agree. any wings I would make my self would not look classy enough and i can't find really nice ones in any of my colors.

Ok i haven't ever treid this but here's my idea. Use metal coat hangers, especially old ones, they're easier to bend to make frames. if one isn't long enough for a wing section you could use two and twist them together to make points at the tips of the wings. Then wrap a couple layers of tulle around them. You might be able to find the right color of fabric or you could dye it maybe. Then glue on some decorations, spray with adhesive, and dust with glitter. I hope it works, good luck!

Usually by August Halloween stores start coming around...maybe order some from one online or go to one of the stores?

Here's a few online stores

I'm sure you can find some more...I think the last link I posted has some cute orange ones that would be perfect.

Here are three sites on how to make them yourself.  I've made some before when I used to work in an after school program and they turned out great and CHEAP.

To make my wings we took wire hangers with a white coating on them (adult and children sizes).  We used the adult sized hangers to form the larger top wings and the child sized ones to make the smaller bottom wings.  After forming them we twisted the ends together and used white duct tape to make sure they stayed.  Then we bent the twisted ends so that they would fit well with the bottoms.  We used white knee high nylons and stretched them really tight before cutting off the excess, tying the ends and duct taping them to the twisted ends.  Then we duct taped sections of upper wings and lower wings together before spray-painting them with color and glitter.  To finish them we will be duct taping two segments of upper and lower wings together, and covering the duct tape with white ribbon.  We are going to use a translucent glitter ribbon to tie around the girls' arms! I hope that this helps, let me know if you need me to explain a part better! Good Luck! Also look on one of my earlier posts about wings for a website that has a demonstrational video! It was really helpful when figuring out the process.

i see that u decided not to go with wings but i was just going to let you know they are really easy to make. i made my daughter some when she was 6 weeks old for an anne geddies type picture. I just bent wire how i wanted them shaped used a hot glue gun and netting to make the sheer look or the wings and then took rose ribbon rope stuff i got at joannes fabric and went around the edge of the wings and then got sparkle glue and painted the flat wing part with it. and then attached elastic on each side for her arms.they turned out really pretty
