Wedding Invitation
Preliminary design
This is the design I came up with for our invitations. I wanted something with a Halloween feel but with no orange and no outright Halloween images such as pumpkins, black cats, etc.

This is just my first draft so far. I'm sure it will evolve. I'm not quite happy with the way to moon looks. I hate that it cuts off at the edges. As of now, I'm looking into buying the DIY kits from Cards & Pockets. They send you the pocketfold enclosure, the invitation mats for you to print, plus the reply cards and an extra card and the envelopes and RSVP envelopes.

It's going to end up costing my about $75 for all of my invitations. Considering we have a relatively small budget, this is awesome.

Decoration
So, in the last post I discussed using Manzanita centerpieces for half my tables.

I'm thinking I want black candelabras for the other half. Black candelabras with silver tapers and red, black and orange flowers. And, of course, tons of candles on all the tables. I love this inspiration picture.

I need tall centerpieces and maybe even something hanging from the ceiling because the room we are looking at is a very industrial loft space.

Manzanita Branches
I wanted to share and AWESOME vendor I found for Manzanita branches. Manzanita Burlworks http://www.manzanita.com/index.htm . It's $15 for a 3 ft Display tree centerpiece. I'm so in love with this idea. I'm having a fairly small wedding, so there will only be 8 guest tables. I am thinking I want to do half of my tables with these manzanita trees. I would spray-paint them black and leave them bare towards the top to give off a very creepy, Halloween feel.

I am now obsessed with this idea.

Wedding Dress
Mon Cheri
I saw this dress on theknot.com and fell in love. I absolutely love the trumpet style. I hate ball gowns and do not think I would stand to wear a huge poofy dress. Plus, I love the layer of plain chiffon at the bottom. It gives it a very floaty look.

I'm going to go try it on next week! Excited!

The Proposal
So... I'm engaged, now what?
Tuesday, September 8, 2009
Well, I'm engaged... now what?
I feel like I am officially engaged now. That a strange statement to make, but it's true. It's a bit complicated.

My fiance and I have been together since our senior year of high school. In our Junior year of college, he decided that he was going to join the military, specifically the Air Force. He signed his contract in March and found out that he was getting sent to basic training on April 7th... the day before our 3 year anniversary. Needless to say, I wasn't thrilled but I was supportive and determined to make the best of the days we had left.

Before he left, he asked me how engagement rings worked. Silly boy. He asked if there was a time limit on how long you could be engaged. So, I had an idea of what was coming. He left for BMT and I had little contact with him for 8 1/2 weeks. I wrote him letters daily and got a few short phone calls. It's surprising how little it matters what kind of contact it is when you just want to HAVE contact. It blows my mind that we wrote letters for 2 months. I guess they will be a wonderful momento to show our grandchildren someday. I saved all of his and he saved all of mine.

He proposed to me on June 6th, 2009. I had flown to San Antonio from St. Louis to see him graduate into being an official member of the US Air Force. He had a strict curfew and I had to drop him off on Saturday night and say goodbye, knowing I was not going to get a "for sure" visit until he got Christmas leave. Right as we were saying good-bye, he looked down at me and asked me to marry him.

It was sweet and romantic and totally him. He is a bit awkward and nerdy. I could never picture him planning an elaborate proposal and getting down on one knee or anything. It was perfect for who we are. Thing is, he was in BMT and did not have a ring to propose with. I was working as a camp counselor this summer and could not have worn one anyway. I lived in a tent in the wilderness for 2 months.

So, when I got back to civilization we sat down at our respective computers and picked out a ring over the webcams. Living 800 miles away from each other makes ring shopping a bit awkward. But, I now have the ring of my dreams and the man of my dreams.

We have set a date for October 31, 2010. Halloween. My absolute favorite holiday and my favorite time of the year.

We are planning an elegantly creepy Halloween wedding. It will be primarily black, white and silver, with red flowers and accents.
