Reception - The $ Issue

Since I've started planning our wedding again my fiance and I have come to realize that even if we continued to save money from here till our wedding... we wouldn't have nearly enough. :( We aren't too sure what to do. We could try to push it back another year (which we've already done because of our little surprise daughter) or we could cancel the reception hall (the biggest chunk of our budget).. owe my parents half the cost of the deposit ($500) and find somewhere cheaper where we could still celebrate this year. Really, the ideal situation woulld be continuing with our plans... even if that means taking out a loan to pay for it. Is it bad of me to feel that way? I know starting out a marriage in debt isn't the best idea, but to be honest we already owe some money. However, our reception hall is PERFECT.. it's everything I've always dreamed of and I really, really, really do not want to ditch it. I feel so stuck! Deep down I know what I have to do, but I'm dreading it.. and hoping that somehow something will appear and save me from making this decision. :(

Ceremony - Allegro Cozumel!

So I believe my fiance and I have decided to get married in Mexico (officially!). My parents have a sort of "time share/vacation package" and are taking us to the Allegro Cozumel and we're going to get married there. Here is what their basic wedding package includes: On-site wedding planner Simply elegant ceremony décor Fresh floral arrangements & displays Bride & grooms bouquet & boutonniere CD Music system * Judge & documentation services Delicate wedding cake Celebratory toast with sparkling wine Romantic breakfast in bed, once per stay Even if we don't pay for the wedding package I know that just getting married in Mexico will be amazing. Shoot, just BEING there will be amazing! :) The photos uploaded are of the Allegro Cozumel hotel. It's supposed to be a very family-friendly hotel.. they even have a water park for kids and lots of kid's activities too and with two kids it's important that they are occupied...lol

Wedding Dress - Formal gown for a beach wedding?

After Olivia was born I started thinking about wedding planning again. While I was pregnant anything and everything was dedicated to preparing for her arrival and that meant I had no time to dreaming about my perfect wedding. But now that she's here I can finally start planning again! Last week I was talking to my mom about our plans to get married in Mexico and my sister asked if I had a dress yet. I realized that she'd never seen my wedding dress, which my mother purchased last year and had been hanging in a closet ever since! I haven't taken it out of the bag since we brought it home! So I immediately ran upstairs and brought it down for her to see and decided to take a few photos of it hanging up (the only other photos I have are of when I first tried it on). My mom wants me to wear it on the beach in Mexico, but I'm a bit apprehensive about that idea. My first reaction was "NO" simply because I didn't want my dress to get full of mud and sand, but my mother promised me that the beaches around the Allegro (hotel) are very clean.. and heck.. my dress is eventually going to get dirty anyway and people really shouldn't be staring at the hemline on my dress anyway. :P My other problem is I'm afraid to pack it and let airport baggage have their way with my dress. And OMG! What happens if it gets lost?! I would DIE! I wouldn't be able to bring it as my carryon because with two kids there are more important things I would have to bring. So I'm not sure if I want to buy something more informal for the beach wedding and just wear my formal gown at our reception. What do you think? Also, I noticed on my dress there is a perfect spot for a brooch, which would be great to add a little color and incorporate my "vintage" theme... Sso I started hunting for a vintage purple brooch on Etsy and found a few I liked. Which do you like?

Our New Baby & More Wedding Planning!

Wow, have I neglected WBC in my last trimester! Unfortunately, being pregnant this time was not as glamorous as it was with our son. I was in a lot of pain and was NOT a happy person. You can't imagine how happy I was to finally give birth to our beautiful little girl. :) Olivia Nicolle was born on October 4th at 11:44 pm. She weighed 5lbs 10 oz and was 19 inches long. I was in labor for a total of 28 hours, but boy was it worth it. The past few months have been focused around preparing for her arrival, so now that she's finally here I can put more time into finishing the final touches of our wedding. Our actual ceremony is going to be private and my parents made a deal with us that they would pay for our honeymoon if we paid for transportation to get there. Well, my parents just recently returned from a lovely vacation in Mexico and have already made plans to visit again next year.. with us! We made it so we would visit before our reception, so there's a possibility that we could actually get married on the beach in Mexico! How exciting is that?! Has anyone else gotten married in Mexico? Were there any complications?

Wow! It's been over a week since I've posted on WBC, or for that matter focused on ANY wedding planning! Financially my fiance and I have been struggling lately, mostly due to his inability to keep track of our account balance. My mother and stepdad have decided to sell the house they are currently living in and have informed us that we will need to rent a storage space to put our things in until they find a new place. My mom is afraid that if we have our things in the house, it won't sell. Most of our stuff is still packed so I don't really have a problem with moving it to a storage center.. the only issue will be scraping the money together to afford it. We are going with them today to look at a house nearby. It's actually closer to my job than where we are right now and my parents, thankfully, are trying to find a place that has an in-laws quarters (extra bedroom, bath, kitchen) so we can continue to stay with them. I'm extremely grateful that they are allowing us to lean on them while we are trying to find our feet (again). I am almost 26 weeks pregnant with our second child (a girl!) and I have been in a lot of pain this past week. My feet are almost always swollen and I've had an almost constant pulling feeling in my groin. Oh, and I'm still getting sick every once in awhile... so staying focused on ANYTHING has been a struggle. We meet the doctor who will be delivering our baby tomorrow so I'm going to be sure to ask him a few questions about my discomfort. Because of the above things I have had little time to concentrate on our wedding. I went through my wedding binder/suitcase and combined everything into my new Martha Stewart planner, which I love. :) I really hope that I can get back on the wagon with planning soon because I don't want to slack and then freak out when I only have a three months left! lol Please tell me I'm not the only one burnt out by wedding planning or distracted by other things in their life?

Cake - Some Ideas

Now that I've finalized my decisions for the favors and the centerpieces.. I still have to decide on THE cake. Here are a few more ideas I found. The first picture, although this isn't really my style I think it is completely unique! I love how they put the top layer on it's on high pedastle and dangle crystals from it. Beautiful. The second one has such a unique shape and I LOVE the flowers and beading. The third one is there for the floral arrangement.. I love it! Plus, it's so simple and elegant. The fourth photo is also simple but it has some "bling". lol The fifth is very unique and I LOVE it! Maybe as my bridal shower cake? It's The Kiss by Klimt, which is one of my (and my mom's) favorite artists. The last photo shows a cake with sugar dusting, which is just dazzling! What do you gals think?

Isn't this wedding just amazing?! There are flowers EVERYWHERE! This is Jennifer Lustig and Michael Gardner's wedding that was featured in the Spring 2009 issue of Inside Weddings. I scanned these photos and put them together, so they aren't the best, but I just HAD to share the sheer lushness of it all. When I look at the photo of her reception I feel like I'm surrounded by millions of my favorite soft pillows! I just don't know how else to describe it! :) And isn't her wedding dress just sooo Cinderella-like? She looked stunning!

I think I finally found a centerpiece that I LOVE! I was browsing Karen Tran's blog and noticed she uses this set up quite a bit for her centerpieces. I absolutely LOVE the entire look! So I'm going to start searching for vases and things so I can try to recreate it myself. :) Does anyone know where I can find large vases in the shape or the little candle holders with the long stems? WBC - How to Insert a Photo Into Your Blog

I was recently emailed by a fellow WBC bride and asked how to place a photo directly into your blog, so I thought I'd share with everyone! :) Find a photo online you want to use, or upload a photo to a photo hosting site like Photobucket. If using a photo already online, right click and select "Copy Image Location". If using a photo from a photo hosting site, copy the photo's direct link. Then use this code: <*img src*="Insert photo link or location here"><*/img> Remove the asterisks when you go to use the code and it should work. Remember, that if you copy the image location from a website the photo will be in it's ORIGINAL size, which could be WAY too big for WBC's post area. In that case, I would suggest saving the photo and uploading it to Photobucket, then resizing it there. :) Hope that helps you ladies!

DIY - DIY Butterfly Place Cardss

I uploaded pictures of both on the left. The first is of the ones on Etsy and the second is the Martha Stewart version. :) Making them myself will save us about $150!

Fashion - Groom's Jacket

I was searching online for original vintage clothing I could incorporate into our wedding or anything else vintage to be used for the reception and I found this most AMAZING men's jacket from the 1960's! It says it's a size 38L, but I'm going to email the seller for measurements to make sure it will fit my FH. I was a little concerned that he wouldn't want to wear it (he's not as into the whole vintage thing as I am), but he actually AGREED to wear it for the wedding! I was beyond thrilled!! It's $295 and he can wear a pair of simple dress pants with it (maybe even a lilac colored shirt!) :) Best of all, it's not being sold on Etsy or Ebay or any large website.. it's being sold by a private collector on their own website, which I love. :) I'm so excited! :) Can't wait to buy it!

It sounds like a typical celebrity wedding, but the bride was 16-year-old traveller Missy Quinn, whose family threw an extraordinary £100,000 bash, celebrating with 150 guests. I wanted a proper Cinderella wedding. A day where Id be the centre of attention, says Missy. It cost a fortune, but Ive always wanted a big wedding and my dad has been saving for ages to pay for it. Missy met her husband, Thomas Moghon, 17, on a day out at Alton Towers theme park when she was just 13. She recalls: Our first date was at a cinema, but my mother made my cousin, Mary, who was then 15, escort me! The couple continued to date, despite Missys family leaving their caravan park in Stoke-on-Trent every summer to roam the UK, while Thomas lived with his parents in Wolverhampton. I just knew he was The One from the beginning, says Missy. Ive never dated anyone else. Hes perfect. Thomas proposed to Missy five months ago, when she was still only 15, in the same cinema where they had their first date. I said yes straight away and we ran home to ask my dads permission, recalls Missy. I was surprised they wanted to get married so young in this day and age, says mum Theresa, 33, who tied the knot with Missys dad when she was 16. Cake - 10 Ways to Avoid Common Wedding Cake Mistakes

Too Big. Your cake should be proportionate to the number of people youre serving. A five-tier cake is not appropriate for a wedding with 100 guests. Sometimes, the larger the cake, the more that can go wrong. 2. Too Small. Again, make sure your cake is in proportion to your wedding. Your baker will know how big your cake should be based on the number of guests. And dont assume some of your guests will pass up the cake. Its better to have extra cake than to run out. 3. Ask Questions. Dont feel embarrassed to ask questions. Its your wedding and your money. Asking how long before the wedding the cake is baked, whether the cake is ever frozen, and who delivers the cake are all valid questions and your baker should be happy to answer them. There are many resources available on the web with suggested questions to ask your baker. 4. Rethink the Top Tier. After a year in the freezer, your cake will taste like just that: a cake thats spent a year in the freezer. Its fine if your baker includes the top tier with the cost of the cake, but dont pay extra for it. Instead, consider buying a nice bottle of wine on your honeymoon and drinking it on your fist anniversary. 5. Whatever You Do, Dont Make Your Cake! And dont allow your mother, sister, or best friend to make it. You (and your mother, sister, and best friend) will have enough to do the day of your wedding. Leave the cake to a professional. 6. Dont Expect a High-End Cake on a Low-End Budget. Generally speaking, when it comes to wedding cakes, you get what you pay for. A cake that costs $7 per serving should be made with better quality ingredients by a more highly skilled cake artisan than a cake that costs $2 per serving. Be realistic about your budget and what you can afford, and adjust your expectations accordingly. Hoping that a $250 cake will taste and look the same as a $1200 cake is a set-up for disappointment. 7. Bring Design Ideas. Its best to meet with your cake designer after you have a few things in place, such as the venue, flowers, and invitations. That way, she will have a good idea of the look and feel of your wedding, and can work with you on the design concept. Coming to the table with nothing, or leaving it all up to the designer, can prove very frustrating for both of you. Its best to bring a few photos of cakes that appeal to you. Some designers will replicate a cake exactly while others prefer to create original designs. 8. Plan Ahead. A reputable cake designer will only accept a limited number of commissions per weekend so he can spend a lot of time with each cake. Many wedding cake bakers book up early, especially during the wedding season, so plan to secure your baker at least six months in advance. Be wary of a baker that accepts a last minute order, and always insist on a tasting. 9. Color. If you want a specific color on your cake, dont leave it to chance. "Tiffany blue" can mean many things to many people, and color on computer monitors can vary greatly. Instead, get paint chips from your local hardware store to give to your baker. Be sure to look at them in all kinds of lightingdaylight, fluorescent light, eveningto be sure its the color you want. A good cake artist should be able to match it exactly. 10. Stay Calm. Know that if something goes wrong whether with your cake or any other aspect of your wedding chances are youre the only one wholl notice. Instead of getting upset and letting it ruin your day, have a drink, laugh it off, and enjoy yourself.

Do you know how hard it is to find PURPLE high heels?! OMG! :( But I finally found some from The Shoe Company in Canada!!! I LOVE the bow on the back of the David Dixon (first picture). Those are $100. The second pair (Town Shoes) has a similar bow to what is on my inspiration shoes.. the $200 pair of Marcianos I posted awhile back.. and are cheaper. I actually squealed with joy when I found these online... my FH thinks I'm crazy but it's soooo hard to find purple dress shoes! I'm SO glad I found some!

So, a few days ago I posted about finding these perfect purple Huckleberry flavored candies that are sold ONLY in a store in the St. Louis Arch (but I can buy them online too!). Well, I let my mom and FH try some that were leftover.... neither of them were as thrilled as I was. My mom thinks I can find something better and encouraged me to keep looking. I was a bit disappointed, but I was searching for bulk candy online and found The Candy Warehouse and they have the option of searching by COLOR. I found some really cute purple and green candies as well as some old-fashioned candies (including wax mustaches!) I could add in to the bags. I'm going to keep searching, but it looks like buying something online from a bulk seller is going to be cheaper than buying all the 4.5 oz packages of the Huckleberry candies. Oh well.

What kind of accommodations (if any) are you making for your OOT (out-of-town) guests? I discussed this with my FH the other day and we decided that we could afford to purchase a few hotel rooms for a few of our OOT guests, but not all of them. Would it be rude to pay for a room for my grandparents and his sister (who are both driving several hours to come to the reception) and not other potential OOT guests? We won't have many, his sister and my grandparents are the only ones FOR SURE who will be driving and staying nearby. I'm inviting some friends from college and some other distant relatives, but I have no idea if they will even come (like my mother's aunts and uncles). I would, of course, still make OOT baskets/bags for anyone who drives and has to stay in our area, but I really don't think we could afford to purchase a TON of hotel rooms! What do you think?
