Non-Floral Centerpieces

I was thinking about either doin Beta fish centerpieces, or jus doing some basic non-floral centerpieces. Is there anyone else doing something like this?

I wouldn't do fish.. they will be so stressed out from all the traveling from your place to where you're taking them.. and that doesnt include the stress they are already in from traveling from where they come from. The noise, lights, and vibrations are going to freak them out and really stress them. I have a beta fish and I know how tempermental he can be. If the lighting in the room is low.. he will see his reflection in the glass and attack it by ramming his head in to the side of the bowl.. I would feel really really sorry for them. I thought about this too, but then I considered what the fish would have to go through just for them to sit there and look pretty for a few hours.. how many of them will you have? people might not want to bring home a fish.. and what if you're left with more than one? these fish can only be kept alone or they will kill each other. I don't mean to be negative.. just want you to think about it!

It is different.  I am having flowers, but I did attend one wedding were they had birds!!!!!!!
I think that if you like it and it works for you - go for it!

I think the beta's look cool.... I checked into this for another bride... melissa is right... most the fish die for this. Even those candles on top are considered abuse. Those candles suck the oxygen out of the water. Chances are they will also be put in tap water before you need them. That can also kill them.. slowly... it'll make their gills bleed. And then you have to figure out what to do with the poor fishies afterwards? Maybe try this...

how about set up one vase with a fishy you know you can take home after.. who can be in proper water.. with a safer topper.. for instance.. go check out at wal mart or somewhere.. and they have vases for those plants that grow in water.. the roots come into the vase... and the beta does just fine. That would be a good way to have your fishy and not hurt him.

If you put more than one beta in the same vase, they'll murder eachother within minutes.

I do think they look pretty too.... but apparently people who know a lot of about fish, beta's in particular, will tell you this idea is horrifying to them. Once upon a time, I liked it too. Goldfish as well. I didn't realize all the risks involved when I thought about it.

I used that crystally stuff that looks like ice... the little rocks that absorb a ton of water and swell up to look all icey... then i used pink submbersible floralytes. So my centerpeices were glowing.

here are a few links for non floral centerpeices

Instead of the fish thing, a good non floral centerpiece would be apples.  Get a tall cylindrical vase and put apples in it with some water.  You could use real or fake apples.  If you used fake ones, you could even spray paint some of them gold to go with your theme.  Good luck!

Personally I wouldn't do fish.  I have had fish, Beta fish included, and I really would not want to be looking at their poop while I am eating. There are definitely tons of other non-floral centerpieces...feathers, vases with rocks/marbles and floating candles, branches, chinese lantern...martha had a page full of them a few months ago but I can't remember what they were...maybe check her site? :)

I used wedding favors and centerpieces all in one from a company called florelle, they make wanderfuls that look like flowers but are candy filled wands! I was able to design them in my wedding colors, and everyone LOVED them! Very Unique. Looked beautiful! Check them out.
